Publication Ethics

Jurnal Bangunan, Konstruksi & Desain (JBKD) is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct in scholarly publishing. The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and expects all parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—to adhere to these standards. Below is the detailed policy based on COPE's Core Practices.

1. Duties of Authors

1.1. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their work is original and has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere. Any material derived from other sources must be properly cited. Plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, is strictly prohibited. All submitted manuscripts will be checked using Turnitin, and those with a similarity index exceeding 25% will be rejected. Authors should ensure that their use of third-party content complies with the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license.

1.2. Authorship and Contributorship
All authors listed on a manuscript must have significantly contributed to the research or writing of the manuscript. Those who contributed in a minor way, such as proofreading, should be acknowledged in a separate section. Any disputes regarding authorship must be resolved by the authors before submission. JBKD follows COPE guidelines for handling authorship disputes.

1.3. Data Accuracy and Reproducibility
Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the data presented in their manuscripts. They must provide access to raw data upon request and ensure that their research is reproducible. Falsification or fabrication of data is a serious violation of ethical standards.

1.4. Multiple Submissions and Redundant Publication
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. Publishing multiple papers based on the same research is only acceptable if each paper presents a significant and unique contribution to the field, and related works must be properly cited.

1.5. Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest
Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could affect the interpretation of their research. Conflicts may include financial relationships, personal relationships, or affiliations that could bias their work. Authors should also disclose all sources of financial support for their research.

1.6. Ethical Considerations
Research involving human subjects, animals, or confidential data must comply with ethical standards. Authors must provide evidence of ethical approval (e.g., from an institutional review board) where applicable. Any risks to participants or ethical concerns must be clearly disclosed in the manuscript.

2. Duties of Editors

2.1. Fair and Impartial Review
The editorial team ensures that all submitted manuscripts undergo a fair and unbiased review process. Decisions are based solely on the academic merit of the work, its contribution to the field, and its alignment with the journal's scope. Editors must not be influenced by the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, or political philosophy.

2.2. Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must keep all submitted manuscripts confidential. No information about a manuscript should be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, or members of the journal’s advisory board.

2.3. Conflicts of Interest
Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where there is a conflict of interest. This may include personal relationships, academic collaborations, or financial interests. In such cases, the manuscript should be assigned to another editor.

2.4. Post-Publication Corrections
If errors, ethical breaches, or misconduct are identified after publication, editors must ensure appropriate actions are taken, including corrections, retractions, or clarifications. JBKD follows COPE guidelines on corrections and retractions.

3. Duties of Reviewers

3.1. Objectivity and Impartiality
Reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the quality of published research. They are expected to provide objective, constructive feedback. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate, and reviewers must focus on the content and academic quality of the manuscript.

3.2. Confidentiality
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential. Reviewers should not share, discuss, or use any information from the manuscript for personal gain. Any potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed, and reviewers should decline to review if they feel unable to provide an objective assessment.

3.3. Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant work that the author has not cited. If they detect plagiarism or suspect ethical misconduct, they should report this to the editor for further investigation.

3.4. Timeliness
Reviewers should complete their evaluations promptly, adhering to the timelines set by the journal. If a reviewer cannot meet the deadline, they should inform the editor as soon as possible to avoid delays in the publication process.

4. Handling Allegations of Misconduct

JBKD takes all allegations of research misconduct—plagiarism, falsification, fabrication, and unethical research—seriously. The journal follows COPE’s guidelines for investigating and resolving such allegations, whether they arise before or after publication.

4.1. Pre-Publication Misconduct
If misconduct is identified during submission or review, the manuscript will be rejected. The corresponding author will be informed, and relevant authorities, such as the authors' institutions, may be notified.

4.2. Post-Publication Misconduct
If ethical concerns are raised after an article is published, JBKD will investigate the issue. Depending on the findings, corrective measures may include corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern. The authors' institutions may also be notified.

5. Appeals and Complaints

Authors, reviewers, or other individuals may appeal decisions or file complaints regarding the review process. Appeals and complaints are handled in accordance with COPE’s guidelines. Appeals must be submitted in writing, specifying the grounds for the appeal. The editor-in-chief will review the case and may seek additional opinions if necessary. The final decision rests with the journal's editorial team.

6. Post-Publication Discussions and Corrections

JBKD encourages open discussion and debate on published articles. Authors, readers, or other scholars may submit letters to the editor or engage in online discussions regarding published work. If a significant error or ethical issue is identified in a published article, the journal will issue a correction, retraction, or other updates to maintain the integrity of the academic record.

Compliance with Licensing
All content published in JBKD is subject to the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC) license. This allows users to share and adapt the work for non-commercial purposes, provided appropriate credit is given to the original authors and the journal.
